A robber was killed in a gunfight with the police on Monday night in Kazirhat thana of Mehendiganj Upazila of Barishal.

The deceased was identified as Mamun Sardar, son of Malek Sardar of Khunna area of Hijla upazila. 

Kazirhat Police Station OC (Investigation) Abdul Khalek PPM said, “A robbery case was filed on February 5 in the incident of the robbery at the house of local Panna Mir in Kazirhat thana. A man named Russell Howlader was arrested a few days ago for the incident.” 

He also said, “In the investigation, Russell confessed the robber happened led by Mamun Sardar. According to the confession, police arrested Mamun on Monday night from Muladi Bridge area.” 

“Later, according to the information given by Mamun, the police went to recover the robber goods on the west side of Monir’s brickfield at Deegrepar’s Kazirabad in Kazirhat thana area.”  

“Sensing the presence of police, the Mamun’s associates started shooting. When the police counter-attack, Mamun tried to run away but he was injured while shooting. Later, Mamun sent to Muladi Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead,” OC Abdul Khalek added.

The OC said, “A single shooter, a pipe gun, two rounds of rifle bullets, two rounds of pistol bullets, empty shells of guns, two machetes, six masks were recovered from the spot.”  

Barisal’s SP Saiful Islam said that many cases including robbers have been filed against Mamun.
