Road accidents kill 20 in a day

Twenty people were killed in road accidents across the country today. The accidents took place in Tangail, Manikganj, Magura, Natore, Bhola, Faridpur, Motijheel and Jatrabari in Dhaka on Friday.

In Manikganj, seven people including six members of a family were killed as a bus collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Daulatpur's Mulakandi. 

The deceased – Harekrishna Baddokar, 60, Khushi Baddokar, 50, Gobinda Baddokar, 30, Babita Baddokar, 26, Radhe Baddokar, 5, Ramprasad Baddokar, 30, auto-rickshaw driver Jamal Sheikh, 32 – were residents of Tangail's Nagarpur upazila.

Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim said the victims were going to Manikganj while a bus hit their auto-rickshaw at 2:45 pm, killing seven on the spot.

In Tangail, six people were killed and five others injured when a truck hit a parked bus at Mirzapur at around 8am on Friday.

In Magura: Two motorcyclists were killed and another injured as a truck hit two motorcycles in the Barakhari area of ​​Sadar this afternoon. The deceased were identified as Sohag Hossain, son of Shahadat Hossain of Jagla village and Taharul Islam, son of Mostafa Miah of Ghoramara village.

Witnesses said a motorcycle collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction while passing an easybike in Barakhari area. Among the three riders on the motorcycle, driver Imran received a slight injury while Sohag and Taharul were seriously injured. The injured were rushed to Magura Sadar Hospital where Sohag and Taharul died.

In Dhaka: A college student named Iftikhar Ifti (18) was killed and his friend injured when their motorcycle was hit by a truck in Manikdia area of ​​the capital's Jatrabari around 10 am.

On the other hand, a child named Nur Sahiba Akhter (10) was killed in a collision between a bus and a CNG-powered autorickshaw in front of Janata Bank in Motijheel. Four others including the CNG driver were injured in the incident.

In Narsingdi: A man named Yusuf Ali (60) was killed in a three-way collision of pickup van and Nasimon and CNG-run autorickshaw at Jamtala area of ​​Shibpur upazila in Narsingdi at noon.

In Faridpur: A child was killed as a motorcycle hit him at Bana Bazar area of Alfadanga in Faridpur on Friday afternoon.

In Bhola: A 45-year-old motorcyclist was killed when a trolley hit his bike in front of the Banglabazar Palli Bidyut office on Bhola-Char Fashion Road in Bhola at noon.
