Bangladesh has given a target of 182 runs to Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the 9th match of Group B. Captain Mahmudullah Riyad holds the record for the fastest fifty in the tournament. With his outstanding innings, the Tigers gave a big target to PNG.
Bangladesh has collected 181 runs in 20 overs after losing seven wickets.
Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad decided to bat after winning the toss in an important match at Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Oman on Thursday. Bangladesh came down with an unchanged XI in this match.
Naim Sheikh and Liton Das opened the innings as usual for the team. Naim returned to the dressing room with a duck (O runs) at the beginning of the innings. The struggle for the Tigers’ opening still continued.
After losing Naim’s wicket, Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das took the helm of the team. The two made a partnership of 50. After that, Liton returned to the dugout with 29 runs after playing a bad shot.
Mushfiqur Rahim still could not get out of the bad patch in this match either. He was out for 5 runs.
Shakib Al Hasan, at the other end, was playing quite comfortably, however, the star all-rounder returned to the dressing room after playing aggressively in Assad Vala’s over. Shakib scored 46 off 37 balls.
After his departure, Mahmudullah Riyad launched a counter-attack. He completed his fifty with just 26 balls – which is the fastest in the current edition of the World Cup. However, he went to the pavilion in the next ball.
In the end, Bangladesh got a big collection in the cameo innings of Afif Hossain’s 21 and Saifuddin’s unbeaten 19 runs.
Kabua Morea, Damien Ravu and Assad Vala took two wickets each for Papua New Guinea.
