Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim
Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim said research should be given priority to ensure soil fertility and utilization. For this, we have to create something new with science-minded thinking and researched knowledge. Only artificial fertilizers should not be used for crop production.
He was speaking at a seminar and the inaugural session of Showcasing and Soil care award 2020 at a hotel in the capital on Saturday.
The Livestock Minister said, “Bangladesh is an extraordinary resource of natural resources. If we want to protect this treasure, we have to go back to our original place. That place is our climate, water and soil.”
He said that which soil on which crop can be produced, whether the use of fertilizers will not ruin the normality of the soil but will be useful to use - these issues need to be extensively researched. The soil and water must be protected collectively.
The Minister further said that underwater soils play an important role in the mass production of fisheries resources. The growth of fishery resources or algae in seas, reservoirs, or rivers is hampered if the soil is not full and suitable. Therefore, there is a need to maintain the biological condition of the soil in agriculture, fisheries and other fields.
