A court in Dhaka today set March 7 to submit the probe report against dancer and choreographer Ivan Shahriar Sohag in a case filed under the Human Trafficking Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara set the new date as the investigation officer of the case failed to submit the report on Tuesday.

Earlier on September 28, accused Ivan was produced in court after remand. At that time, the investigating officer of the case appealed to keep him in jail till the investigation is completed. Following the petition, the court ordered him to be sent to jail.

Earlier, on July 2, CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Mrinal Kanti Shah filed a case against nine people, including ringleader Azam Khan, under the Human Trafficking Act with Lalbagh police station.

The accused in the case are – Alamin Hossain alias Diamond, Swapan Hossain, Azam Khan, Nazim, Ershad and Nirmal Das (agent), Alamgir, Aman (agent) and Shuvo (agent).

In August last year, the CID arrested the ringleader and two other members of a human trafficking ring that forced young women into prostitution in Dubai after trafficking them as tourists.

The ringleader, identified as Azam, gave some information on his cohorts during interrogation. Azam also gave a confessional statement before the court. Ivan’s name came up during the confession.

Later on September 11, CID arrested Ivan Shahriar from the Niketon area of Dhaka. Later, he was placed on a seven-day remand in the case. After the end of his seven-day remand, the court sent him to jail.

According to the case documents, Evan used to offer his female students good jobs in Dubai. When the dancers agreed to his offer, Evan with the help of human trafficking kingpin Azam Khan, his brother Nazim and accomplice Ershad, used to prepare necessary documents. After sending them to Dubai, Azam Khan and his men used to forced them into prostitution and beaten them, if they refuse.

Evan Shahriar won the National Award for his choreography in the film ‘Dhatteriki’.
