Renu murder: Court orders to seize property of fugitive accused

A court today has ordered to seize the property of fugitive accused Mohin Uddin in a murder case of lynching Taslima Begum Renu on suspicion of kidnapping at a primary school gate in the capital’s Badda.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid issued the order after a hearing on Sunday. The court has fixed February 1 for the report.

Earlier, a petition was made to seize the property of the fugitive accused Mohin Uddin. The court issued the order in this regard. 

On December 2, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid took cognizance of the chargesheet in the case. At the same time, an arrest warrant was issued against the fugitive accused Mohin Uddin and the court fixed January 3 for a report on the matter. 

Earlier on September 10, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Abdul Haque of DB Police, filed a chargesheet against 15 people in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court. The investigating officer has filed guilt-charges against two of them as they are minors.

The accused in the chargesheet are – Ibrahim alias Hridoy Mollah, Riya Begum Moyna, Abul Kalam Azad, Kamal Hossain, Md. Shahin, Bachchu Mia, Md. Bappi, Murad Mia, Sohail Rana, Asadul Islam, Bellal Mollah, Md. Raju and Mohin Uddin. Among them, Mohin Uddin is a fugitive. An arrest warrant has been issued against him.

Accused Zafar Hossain Patwari and Wasim Ahmed have been guilt-charged as they are minors.

Wasim, Hridoy and Riya Begum have given confessional statements in the court. Among them – Riya Begum, Bachchu Mia, Shaheen, Murad and Bappi have been granted bail by the High Court.

It is to be mentioned that on July 20, 2019, the agitated crowd beat and injured Taslima Begum Renu on suspicion of child kidnapping in North Badda. She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition and was declared dead by the doctor. Renu’s nephew Nasir Uddin filed a murder case against 500 unidentified persons with Badda police station on the same day.
