Renowned industrialist Deen Mohammad, chairman of Phoenix Group and founding chairman of City Bank, has passed away.
He breathed his last at Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital in the capital at 1:00 am on Tuesday. He was 83. He was suffering from various old age complications for a long time.
His Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at Lalbagh Shahi Mosque after the Zuhr prayer today.
Deen Mohammad, founding chairman of Phoenix Group of Industries, developed his entrepreneurial abilities over time and founded the largest Phoenix Group. The Phoenix Group of Companies includes Phoenix Insurance, Phoenix Finance and Investments Limited, Phoenix Spinning Mills Limited and Phoenix Securities Limited.
This industrialist created thousands of employment opportunities in the country. He is the proprietor of Apollo Steel and a partner in the real estate company Rupayan Group.
Renowned businessman Deen Mohammad has contributed to the country’s trade and commerce with honesty and sincerity. Born on 3 August 1936, his father’s name was late Haji Noor Mohammad.
He started his business life in 1960. He is known as one of the original traders of Dhaka. Deen Mohammad has played a leading role in the development of industrialization and the economy of the country.
Besides his business activities, Deen Mohammad was involved in various socio-cultural organizations. He was the former president of Lalbagh Sporting Club and Rahmatganj Sporting Club. He was involved in running Lalbagh Shahi Mosque and Jamia Qurania Arab Madrasa and an Honorary Life Member of Dhaka Club Limited.
He was awarded various prizes and medals at home and abroad. He was honored with the late Maulana Akram Khan Gold Medal and Jagadish Chandra Gold Medal. He was awarded the Business Initiative Directions (BID) by a business company based in Madrid, Spain. His founding Phoenix Finance and Investments Limited was awarded the International Award (ISAQ).
Deen Mohammad’s contribution to trade and commerce, job creation and industrialization of the country will be forever remembered.
