11th parliamentary election on 23 December: CEC

The 11th parliamentary elections will be held on December 23 (Sunday),  Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda announced on Thursday.

Speaking to the nation in a televised address on Thursday evening, he disclosed the information.

Earlier, the meeting was held at the Chief Election Commissioner's Office to finalize the date of voting at 11am on Thursday. In the 39th meeting of the commission, along with CEC KM Nurul Huda, Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Begum Kabita Khanam and Brigadier General (retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury and Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed were present.

Shortly after the meeting began, the BTV, radio recording team entered the CEC's room. The speech is recorded after all the preparations.

The countdown of elections began on October 31. The current parliament has validity until 28th January. There bindings to hold election within this time, according to the Constitution. EC is determined to hold elections in time. That is why, on November 1, CEC met President Abdul Hamid to inform about full preparation for the elections.

10th National Parliament Election was held on 5 January 2014.
