Remaining 4 Padma Bridge spans to be installed by mid-December

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said 37 out of 41 spans of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge have already been installed. With the installation of 37th span, 5.55 kilometers of the bridge is now visible. The remaining four spans will be installed by mid-December if the river flows at the expected level.
The minister came up with the comments after unveiling the wrapper of the annual report of the bridge department for the 2019-2020 financial year through videoconference on Thursday.
He said the actual progress of the main bridge is 91 percent. The actual progress of river treatment works is about 75 percent while the overall progress of the project 82 percent.
The bridge minister further said that the boring work of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel (Karnafuli Tunnel) with two tubes in Chattogram has been completed including the replacement of the ring of a tube with a length of about 2.50 km. The boring work of the second tunnel tube will start in the second week of next December. The actual physical progress of the project is 60 percent.
Secretary of the Bridges Department Mohammad Belayet Hossain, other members of the board meeting, and senior officials of the Bridges Department were joined in the video conference.
