A Dhaka court today granted a five-day remand to Tarikul Islam alias Tarek Shibli, main associate of Regent Hospital Chairman Saheed, in a case filed over issuing fake COVID-19 test results and charging patients for the test and treatment.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan passed the order as Uttara West Police Inspector Alamgir Gazi produced Shibli before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

Earlier, Shibli was arrested from the capital’s Nakhalpara area on the night of July 8.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on July 6 raided two hospitals of Regent Group in Uttara and Mirpur and arrested the eight for issuing fake corona test results and certificates by using forged serial number and signatures of concerned authorities, realizing illegal fees from the patients, running hospital business without having any proper approval, among other charges.

On July 6, Sarwar Alam sealed the two branches of the Regent Hospital. In the evening, the health department ordered to stop the activities of the hospital.

On July 7, RAB filed the case against 17 including Regent Group chairman Md Shahed with Uttara West Police Station under Section 406/417/465/48/471/289 of the Penal Code and sealed off the two branches of the Regent Hospital.
