Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said those who refuse the 7 March speech are denying the Independence in the first place.

“The Bengali nation gets the guidance of independence through the fiery 7 March speech of Bangabandhu. 18 days after that speech, the Liberation War started at the call of Bangabandhu when Pakistani forces descended into the killing of Bangalees. After nine months of armed struggle, the Independence of Bangladesh came,” he said after paying homage to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi on Saturday.

Obaidul Quader said those who do not signify the 7 March, they have no cognition of independence. “They speak of freedom for flaunting.”

“March 7 is being celebrated in due dignity. There is no need for a separate arrangement,” he said.

Earlier in the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion. After laying the wreath, she stood in solemn silence for sometime as a mark of profound respect to the memory of Bangabandhu, the architect of the independence.

Flanked by central leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, placed another wreath at the portrait of the Father of the Nation on behalf of her party.

Later, the leaders and workers of Awami League’s associate bodies, including Awami Jubo League, Chhatra League, Mahila Awami League, Sramik League, Krishak League, Jubo Mohila League, and Swechchhasebok League, also paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at his portrait on the occasion.
