Wari area of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), marked as ‘Rad Zone’ area due to high risk of coronavirus infection, will be locked down for 21 days from Saturday.
It is learned that the lockdown will be effective from 6:00 am on that day to July 25.
Tipu Sultan Road of DSCC’s 41 no. ward, Jahangir Road, Dhaka-Sylhet Highway (Joy Kali Mondir to Baldha Garden), Lalmini Road as outer and inner road, Hare Road, Wari Road, Rankin Road and Nawab Road are under this Red Zone.
Meanwhile, the DSCC, DGHS, police administration and other local administrations have made all preparations for the implementation of the lockdown. However, there are concerns about the implementation of the lockdown. This is because the population density is much higher in Wari area considering the size. Besides, many traders live in the area.
However, police said that once the lockdown starts, it will not be possible to leave the house in the red zone without urgent need. All types of movement within these areas will be shut down, access or exit will be controlled.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Wari Division Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shah Md. Iftekhairul Islam said, “We are 100% ready to implement the lockdown.”
However, there are some fears. Because the population here is almost double that of East Rajabazar. There are 16 entrances to this area. We will leave the two paths open and seal the rest. Even then, there are some shortcomings in the manpower we need to keep so many people at home, he added.
Local councilor Sarwar Hasan said, “All our preparations are in the final stages. We will be able to start the 21-day program beautifully from dawn. The city mayor is overseeing everything including regular inquiries.”
