Rape case verdict within 7-working days, man gets life term

A court in Bagerhat on Monday has sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a case filed for raping a seven-year-old child. At the same time, the court also fined him Tk 20000, in default he will have to serve one more years of imprisonment. The verdict was announced within seven days after the case was framed.
Bagerhat Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 Court Judge and Sessions Judge Md. Noor-e-Alam announced the verdict.
The only accused identified as Abdul Mannan Sarder, a resident of Ashrayan Project.
The court framed charges on October 13 after the police filed a chargesheet on October 11.
The judge, on Sunday, heard the arguments of the lawyers of the plaintiffs and defendants in the case. He then fixed the date for the verdict to be announced on Monday.
According to the case details, Abdul Mannan Sardar called the seven-year-old child to his house on October 3 and raped her. Later that night, the girl’s uncle filed a case against Abdul Mannan with Mongla Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Mongla Police Station SI Biswajit Mukherjee, who is also the investigating officer of the case, filed a chargesheet against Abdul Mannan on October 11 within eight days after finding out the truth of the incident.
