A rape case has been filed against Zakaria Noman Fayezi, publicity secretary of the defunct Central Committee of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh
A woman filed the case at Chattogram’s Hathazari police station on Thursday afternoon, confirmed Chattogram District Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque.
According to the case, Zakaria Noman Fayezi met the woman in September 2019 through Facebook. Through messenger and WhatsApp chatting, he tempted the woman to get married and asked her to come to Hathazari. The woman later came to Hathazari and Fayezi rented her a house in November 2019. During her stay in the rented house for a year, Fayezi raped the woman at different dates and times. Later, the woman moved from Hathazari to a relative’s house in Chattogram city. The woman was then taken to different homes and hotels with the temptation of marriage and raped.
Fayezi was arrested from Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar last Wednesday. He was later arrested in a case of arson with Hathazari police station and produced in court, police said.
The court granted him a five-day remand on Thursday.
