Rape at MC College: Masum on 5-day remand

A Sylhet court on Wednesday granted five days remand to Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, no.6 accused, in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman at Murari Chand College in Sylhet on Friday.
Judge Saifur Rahman of Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court-2 granted five days remand to him in the afternoon.
Earlier, accused Masum, son of Salik Ahmed of Lama Dalaikandi village in Dakshin Banigram UP of Kanaighat upazila, was arrested from Haripur in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet on Monday night.
Earlier on Friday evening, the couple from Shibbari area of South Surma visited the MC College campus. At that time, Saifur and his associates – Rabiul, Tarek, Rony, Saifur, Mahfuj, and Arjun – took the woman and her husband to the nearby college hostel, where they tied up the husband and raped the woman.
On information, police rescued the rape victim and her husband and sent the victim to the One-stop Crisis Centre at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
The victim’s husband filed a case with Shah Poran police station against 9 people with three unnamed persons.
