Rain likely, temperature may rise slightly

Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Thursday forecasted that light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur in different parts of the country in the next 24 hours commencing at 9:00 am today.

"Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Barishal divisions with moderately heavy falls at isolated places over the country," said a Met Office release issued this morning.

Besides, day temperature may rise slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, the release added.

South-west monsoon has withdrawn from the northern part of the country. Conditions are likely favourable for further withdrawal of South-west monsoon from remaining part of Bangladesh.

Monsoon is less active elsewhere over Bangladesh and weak over North Bay.

As an outlook for next 72 hours, the BMD predicted: "Rainfall activity may decrease."

The country's maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 33.4 degrees Celsius at Jashore in Khulna division and the minimum temperature today was 22.2 degrees Celsius at Tetulia in the Rangpur division.

Maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6:00 am today was recorded 87 millimeters (mm) at Dimla in the Rangpur division.

Today's sunset at 5.27 PM and tomorrow's sunrise at 5.59 AM at Dhaka.
