Rail communication between Khulna and the rest of the country resumed on Tuesday noon after a 10-hour disruption caused by a collision between two freight trains.
The collision between two freight trains took place at 1:43 am on Tuesday at Safdalpur station in Kotchandpur, Jhenaidah.
Kotchandpur station manager Golam Mostafa said that the oil-laden freight train from Parbatipur collided with the goods-laden freight train from Jashore Noapara on the same line after disobeying signals.
Three bogies of the two trains with engines derailed. A huge amount of diesel oil has spilt in the area. Following the collision Khulna’s train communication with rest of the country had been snapped.
On information, a relief train from Ishwardi rushed the spot and started the rescue work. The rail communications resumed around 12:00 pm after the rescue work.
