Raihan murder: ASI Asheque Elahi detained

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested ASI Asheque Elahi in connection with the death of Raihan Ahmed by police torture at the Bandar Bazar police outpost in Sylhet, confirmed PBI SP Khalequzzaman on Thursday.
ASI Asheque Elahi was arrested from Sylhet Police Lines on Wednesday night. He will be taken to court at noon, the SP also said.
Earlier, the PBI arrested temporarily ousted constables — Harunur Rashid on October 24 and Tutul Chandra Das on October 20 — in connection with the case.
The court sent Tutul Chandra Das to jail after two-phases of remand.
Raihan, son of Rafiqul Islam of Akhalia Neharipara of Sylhet, died at the Bandarbazar police outpost on October 11 morning. Tahmina Akhter Tani, the wife of the deceased, filed a case with Sylhet Kotwali Model Police Station.
Later, SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, in-charge of Bandarbazar outpost, Constables Harunur Rashid, Touhid Mia and Titu Chandra Das were temporarily suspended and ASI Asheque Elahi, ASI Qutub Ali and Constable Sajib Hossain were withdrawn.
The main accused in the case, SI Akbar, is absconding. SI Hasan of Bandarbazar outpost was also suspended for helping him escape.
The case was later handed over to the PBI. The PBI then arrested the ousted constables Titu Chandra Das and Harunur Rashid.
