RMG workers missing after falling from boat in Shitalakshya

A garment worker went missing after falling from a boat into the Shitalakshya river of Bandar upazila in Narayanganj. The missing man identified as Saddam Hussein.

The incident took place at Nabiganj ferry terminal at 8:30 am on Monday.

The missing Saddam Hussein used to live with his family in a rented house at the Uttarpara area of ​​Nabiganj port. His father's name is Musleuddin. Saddam used to work at Lichulia Garment at Godnail, Siddhirganj.

Citing eyewitnesses, Bandar Police Station OC Fakhruddin Bhuiyan said a boat carrying extra passengers left Nabiganj dock on the west bank of the river at around 8:30 am for Hajiganj. Most of the passengers on the boat were garment and hosiery workers.

When the boat went to the mid-river, it was shaken by the strong waves. Three people, including boatman Kalun and garment worker Saddam, fell into the river. Although two of them were able to swim ashore Saddam remained missing.

Yasmeen Akhter, Saddam Hussein's wife, said he had seen Saddam's tiffin carrier and sandals on the boat and was sure he was missing. Fire service and civil defense divers are conducting rescue operations.
