RMCH sees highest COVID deaths in a day

In the last 24 hours, 16 people have died from Covid-19 in the Corona ward of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). 10 of them died with COVID positive while 6 succumbed with symptoms. With this, the RMCH has seen the highest death in a day in the last 1.5 years.
Confirming the matter on Friday morning, RMCH deputy director Saiful Ferdous said nine of the 16 are hailing from Chapainawabganj, six from Rajshahi and one from Naogaon district.
According to hospital sources, 225 people are currently undergoing treatment at the Corona Unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital till Friday morning. About 284 samples were tested in the last 24 hours where 84 patients detected with positive results, yielding the positivity rate of 26.25 percent. 32 of them have been admitted to the hospital.
In Natore, the infection rate has risen to 34.40 percent as 93 people underwent a sample test where 32 COVID patients were detected in the last 24 hours.
In Chapainawabganj, 152 samples were tested and 72 people was identified with the Covid-19 pandemic, with a positivity rate of 54 percent.
In these three districts – samples of 529 people have been tested and a total of 18 COVID patients have been identified. The total infection rate is 35.54 percent.
In the last 12 days from May 24 to June 4, 93 people died at the Corona Unit and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of RMCH Hospital. Of these, 58 were affected by the pandemic. The rest died of symptoms.
It is to be mentioned that a ‘night lockdown’ underway in Rajshahi while Naogaon municipal area and Niamatpur upazila have been brought under local restrictions from Thursday.
