After raiding Helena Jahangir’s resident, the RAB has also carried out raids at her IP TV JoyJatra Television office. RAB Executive Magistrate Palash Kumar Basu led the raid.
Confirming the matter, ASP Imran Khan, assistant director of the legal and media wing at the RAB headquarters, said the raid was being carried out at the office of JoyJatra Television based on “certain allegations”.
RAB raided the office of JoyJatra Television on Road No. 3, Block A, Mirpur-11 from 2 am to 4 am.
Meanwhile, RAB did not find any valid documents of Helena Jahangir’s channel during the raid. The country’s law enforcement agency also said the channel would be “shut down” if no valid documents were found after investigation.
“Preliminary interrogation after Helena Jahangir’s arrest revealed that she owned an IP television named JoyJatra TV,” said RAB Executive Magistrate Nadir Shah.
As per the information given by her, RAB raided the channel’s office located in the capital’s Mirpur area. But the television channel did not have any valid documents. However, it has everything to set up the broadcast channel, he also said.
Nadir Shah added that Helena had appointed correspondents across the country for JoyJatra TV. There are allegations that she has “embezzled money” in the name of appointing correspondents outside the country. Due to the non-receipt of valid documents, action will be taken after further investigation. “Besides, the office of JoyJatra Foundation found here. This matter will also be investigated,” he said.
Asked whether the channel would be shut down, Executive Magistrate Nadir Shah said the next decision would be taken after further investigation. The channel will be shut down if “valid documents are not found” after investigation.
Earlier, RAB arrested Helena Jahangir after a four-hour raid at her Gulshan resident in the capital. Foreign liquor, illegal walkie-talkie sets, casino equipment and deerskins were recovered from her home. After her arrest, he was taken to the RAB headquarters.
