RAB detained seven for spreading anti-state rumors

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained 7 people from various places in the country for spreading false information and spreading rumors through social media.

They were arrested in the capital’s Uttara, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Madaripur, Cumilla, Bogura and Kishoreganj from Tuesday 4:00 pm till Wednesday 7:00 pm.

This information was given in a press release sent by RAB’s Legal and Media Wing.

The Detainees are -- Md. Rabiul Islam (42), Tofazzal Hossain Helal (40), Md. Akhlakuzzaman Ansari (43), Tanvir Hasan Mohon (22), Abu Raihan Al-Biruni Puskin (43), Md. Yusuf (30) and Md. Abul Kalam (34). 

RAB Legal and Media Wing’s Senior Assistant Director (Senior ASP) Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan confirmed the matter and said that the detainees used social media to spread anti-state fabricated false information, spread rumors.

He said, “There is also evidence of the distortion of the important people of the state including Prime Minister, Cabinet, Election Commissioner, Army Chief, Inspector General of Police, DG RAB, DMP commissioner and others.”

He also said that for the prevention of the propaganda through social media, RAB-1, RAB-5, RAB-7, RAB-8, RAB-11, RAB-12 and RAB-14 conducted drives and arrested them from Uttara, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Madaripur, Cumilla, Bogura and Kishoreganj.

“Legal action will be taken against detainees. RAB has so far arrested 192 people for cyber-crime," said RAB official.
