Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has requested the United Nations to include Bengali as its official language.
He came up with the request while briefing reporters after paying tributes to language heroes by placing a floral wreath on behalf of the Bangladesh Awami League at the Central Shaheed Minar on Sunday on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.
The Awami League general secretary urged the government to ensure the use of the Bengali language in higher education and also in the high court.
Obaidul Quader said the roots of communal evil must be uprooted in building a liberal-non-communal, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh, the dream of the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader along with presidium members Matia Chowdhury and Muhammad Faruk Khan, and Joint Secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud, and Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil placed floral wreath on behalf of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina.
