Muriel Bowser, the mayor of Washington DC, has extended the state’s public emergency for 15 more days on Wednesday night (Thursday BD time) in response to the violence of Trump supporters’ ‘protests’ that erupted inside the US Capitol earlier in the day.
In a statement, Mayor Muriel Bowser said, “They have fired chemical irritants, bricks, bottles, and guns. They have breached the security of the Capitol and their destructive and riotous behavior has the potential to spread beyond the Capitol. Their motivation is ongoing.” – reports New York Post.
“Some dissatisfied persons” with the certification of the Electoral College votes will continue to protest violently till 20 January, the day President-elect Joe Biden will be taken the office, Bowser also said.
Earlier, Bowser imposed a citywide curfew starting from 6:00 pm Wednesday until 6:00 am Thursday.
