Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud on Sunday said that the process to take ailing Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader to Singapore for his better treatment is underway.

The minister said this while talking to reporters at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) after visiting Obaidul Quader.

Quader, also the Awami League General Secretary, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of BSMMU in the capital at 7:00 am, as he complained of breathing problem.

Later, the minister was shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital. A medical board has been formed immediately for his treatment.

Three blockages have been found in his coronary artery following an angiogram, said Prof Syed Ali Ahsan, chairman of the hospital’s cardiology department.

Meanwhile, BSMMU vice-chancellor (VC) Dr. Kanak Kanti Barua said that one of the blocks has already been removed. Quader has been kept under close observation for the next 72 hours, he added.

AL joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been enquiring about Quader’s health condition.

He requested the people of the country to pray for his early recovery and also requested party leaders and workers not to amass at the hospital.
