Process begins to release 3000 inmates

The government has begun the process of releasing more than 3,000 inmates to prevent coronavirus infection in prison. In the meantime, a list of these inmates has been sent to the Home Ministry. Prisoners who are old, sick and convicted of small offences are given priority.

According to the Department of Prisons, they have sent a list to the Ministry of Home Affairs as directed by the Ministry. From there, the list will be sent to court via law ministry and the court will make the final decision on bail.

Dhaka Central Jail Jailer Mahbubul Islam told the media that Not only Dhaka Central Jail, the prisoners from all over the country will be released temporarily. The government has decided to prevent coronavirus infection. But every year, some prisoners are released considering different aspects of special days like Eid, New Year and National Day. This time, a separate list has been sent to the ministry.
