A fire at a warehouse in northeastern China has killed at least 14 people. Besides, 26 more people were seriously injured, reported AFP, citing China’s state media, on Saturday.

The country’s official Xinhua news agency said the warehouse was located in Changchun, the capital of the northeastern province of Jilin. The warehouse caught fire around noon on Saturday. Efforts are still underway to rescue those trapped inside the warehouse.

Xinhua’s photo shows firefighters using ladders and cranes to extinguish the blaze from outside the glass-walled building. However, Xinhua said an “investigation was underway” to determine the cause of the blaze.

Fatal fires are not uncommon in China. Such fires often occur in the country due to violations of construction policies and the construction of unauthorized buildings.

Last June, a fire at the residential building of a martial arts school in the central province of Henan killed at least 18 people. Most of them are children of that school.

Earlier in 2017, two fires killed more than two dozen people in an immigrant settlement in Beijing.
