Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Mohammad Javed Patwary focuses on the need for deradicalization of the imprisoned militants to be brought back to the mainstream of society after getting out of jail. But there is no activity in this regard. He urged the NGOs to work on the issue.

He made these remarks while addressing a special guest at the concluding session of the two-day National Conference on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism-2019 held at the International Convention City Bashundhara in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The IGP said that after the Awami League government took power in 2009, the Prime Minister adopted a zero-tolerance policy against extremism. This motivates law enforcement agencies. As a result, there is an unexpected success in this regard. Bangladesh is now a role model in tackling militancy in international forums. However, this did not come easily, many accepted death for this.

Highlighting the importance of concerted initiatives and family ties to tackle destructive activities like extremism, he said that the words of religious leaders are acceptable everywhere in society. He urged to focus on the religious stand against terrorism, crime, and narcotics before the Jumma prayer. At the same time, he urged the guardians to be aware of the importance of strengthening family ties to acquire the right values.
