President Abdul Hamid on Wednesday asked the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to pay special attention to protecting human rights of the underprivileged and physically challenged people.

He made the call when an eight-member NHRC delegation, led by its Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque, submitted its annual report-2018 to the President at Bangabhaban.

President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters at the meeting.

"The human rights issue is related to almost all the goals of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). If we want to achieve the SDGs, human rights must be ensured," the President said.

NHRC Chairman Reazul apprised the President of different activities of the Commission.

He also sought President’s all-out cooperation, including for constructing the Commission’s permanent office.

NHRC members M Nazrul Islam, Nurun Naher Osmani, Enamul Hoque Chowdhury and Prof Akhter Hussain attended the meeting.

Secretaries concerned to Bangabhaban were also present at the meeting.
