President M Abdul Hamid has agreed to the four bills including the supplementary budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year in the current budget session of 11th Jatiya Sangsad (JS).

He signed the bills on Thursday, said a press release from the Cabinet Secretariat.

The bills are – Specification (Supplementary) Bill 2021; Iodized Salt Bill 2021; Hajj and Umrah Management Bill 2021 and Child Day Care Center Bill 2021.

Of these — the supplementary budget ‘Specification (Supplementary) Bill 2021’ of Tk 13,987,27,32,000 for the current 2020-21 fiscal year was passed on June 8. The bill was passed with the approval of the ministries or divisions which had incurred additional expenditure from their original allocations.

Besides, the ‘Iodized Salt Bill 2021’ was passed in the JS on June 14 with the provision of using iodized salt in animal feed. The bill provides for a maximum of three years in jail and a fine of Tk 15 lakh for non-iodine in edible salt and salt used in animal feed. However, retailers will not be punished for this crime.

The ‘Hajj and Umrah Management Bill 2021’ was passed in the JS on June 15. The bill stipulates that even if a Hajj and Umrah agency commits a crime in Saudi Arabia, the crime will be trialed in Bangladesh. The bill states that if someone goes to Saudi Arabia to cheat after the Hajj agreement is signed, the crime will be treated as if it was committed in Bangladesh.

The ‘Child Day Care Center Bill 2021’ was passed on June 18. The bill provides for two years in jail and a fine of Tk 10 lakh for running a daycare center without registration.

The bills have become law as the President has signed them as per the rules of the constitution.
