President, PM pay rich tributes to martyrs on Victory Day

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War by placing wreaths at the National Martyrs’ Memorial (Jatiya Smriti Saudha) in Savar marking the 49th Victory Day.

The President and the Prime Minister placed the wreath at the altar of the National Martyrs’ Memorial, with the rise of the sun at about 6:34 am. After placing the wreath, the President and the Prime Minister stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the martyrs of the Great War of Liberation in 1971.


A smartly turned out contingent comprising Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, and Bangladesh Air Force personnel presented state salute on the occasion when bugles played the last post.

Later, flanked by senior leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina, also the Awami League president, laid another wreath at the National Memorial as the party Chief.

Later, Chief Justice Syed Mahmood Hossain paid tribute to the National Memorial, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Fazle Rabbi Mia paid tributes to the freedom fighters and martyrs. Tributes were paid on behalf of different political organizations.
