Preparations have started for the trial run of the country's first-ever metro rail service at Diabari depot in Uttara of the capital. The first set of bogies of the metro rail was tested at around 12:00 pm on Tuesday.

MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), said the first set has six bogies. The experimental operation of these will start this month. We are preparing for that.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, who joined the occasion virtually, said that the construction work of the metro rail in Bangladesh has progressed by 63.26 percent. The progress of the construction work in the first phase of the metro rail project between Uttara and Agargaon is 84.79 percent.

Among others, the Japanese Ambassador and JICA Country Director were present at the Uttara Depot at the time.

Earlier, the foreign ship MV Ocean Grace arrived in the port of Mongla at around 12:00 on Sunday with the second shipment of six bogies of the metro rail.
