Preparation afoot to observe victory day in Khulna tomorrow

Khulna district administration has set programs to celebrate December 16, the 48th anniversary of the Bangalees glorious victory over the Pakistani occupation forces, pledging to establish a non-communal prosperous and well developed Bangladesh with the spirit of Liberation war.

To observe the day an elaborate program has been taken up at a meeting recently in the conference room of the deputy commissioner office.

Elites, officials, educationists, journalists, political and cultural activists of the city attended the meeting.

The program of the day will begin with the placing of wreaths on the monument of Shaheed martyrs of Gallyamari at 6 am on December 16.

The day will be heralded by a 31-gun salute at dawn at the Khulna Police Line Ground.

Khulna divisional commissioner Md. Lokman Hossain Mia will be hoisting the national flag at Khulna Stadium Ground and will take salute from grand parade.

Khulna Shishu Academy will be organizing an art and painting competitions for children on the occasion.

Discussion meeting and a reception program to honor the freedom fighters will be held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner office.

Hoisting of national flags atop of all public and private buildings at dawn and placing of wreaths by the people of all walks of life at the Gallyamary monument on the day.

Special prayers will be offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions, seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country.

The improved diet will be served at all hospitals, orphanage centers and jail to mark the day.

State-run Khulna Betar will be broadcast special programs while the local newspapers will bring out special supplements on the occasion.

Khulna BISIC will organize two days handicraft fair at Khulna Public hall tomorrow. A discussion meeting on life and sketch of Bir Shreshtha Ruhul Amin will be held at the Rupsha Ghat area on December 17.

Khulna city and district unit Awami League has chalked out different program to observe the victory day.

The programs include hoisting of national and party flag and to pay tribute at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzibur Rahman, floral wreath at the Gallamary martyrdom memorial and a discussion meeting.

Khulna University, Khulna University and Engineering Technology (KUET), Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), 1971: Genocide and Tortured Archive Museum and different socio-cultural and political parties will observe the victory day in befitting manner.
