Poverty couldn`t stop Asmani

Poverty couldn`t stop Asmani

Asmani Khatun could not eat food every day, so a home tutor was a far cry for her. She could not wear clothes of good quality. Although all the classmates used to come to school by vehicles, it was not possible for the day labourer's father to pay. So she used to walk about four kilometres from home to go to school all year. However, overcoming all, Asmani has surprised everyone by getting GPA 5 from the humanities department in this year's SSC examination.

Asmani Khatun is the daughter of Oliar Mollah of Dauti village in Kaliganj, Jhenaidah and a student of Kolabazar United High School. Although the poor parents are happy with the good result of their daughter, on the other hand, they are worried about how to pay for her college education.

Visiting the house on Sunday our correspondent found, Asmani is living with her parents in a small house with broken mud walls and fences.

Asmani said, "My parents are uneducated. Even so, they are doing many sacrifices for me it's making me upset. In my parents' endeavours, I always worked hard for good results. So I used to study more and more. Now I am thinking about how the bear next educational expenses.

Asmani's father Oliar Rahman Mollah said, "What is A+ I don't know but people are saying my daughter has done well." I have married my elder daughter Rikta Khatun, Asmani is still studying and my only son Sabbir Hossain is a 3rd grader.

He further said, "I don't have any cultivable land in the field except 5 per cent of my house."I used to work in the fields for the rest of the year as day labour. Even then there is no work all the time. I could not afford to pay for my daughter's education. I could not give her good clothes to go to school. Now I hear the girl did well in the exam. But now I am thinking about how I will bear the cost of college.

Mozaffar Hossain, a senior teacher of the school, said, “Asmani's village is next to mine. The girl's father is also a man of very innocent nature."

Abdul Wahab Joarder, the acting headmaster of Kolabazar United High School, said Asmani, the daughter of a very poor father, was very polite. When she came to school, she was always silent and attentive in class. All the teachers and staff of the school are very happy as Asmani obtain GPA- 5.
