Film actress Shamsunnahar Smriti, better known by her screen name Pori Moni, walked out of the prison on Wednesday after she was granted bail in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
A private car, carrying her, left the Kashimpur Central Women's Jail at 9:36 am. Pori Moni, wearing a white dress, looked quite playful and cheerful. She was seen getting out of the car and taking selfies with the people.
Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge KM Imrul Kayes granted her bail on a bond of Tk 20,000 in the narcotics case. The bail order will be valid until the police file their report in the case.
The members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Pori Moni on August 4 after raiding her Banani residence. Later a case was filed against the popular Dhallywood actress after law enforcers claimed to have found illegal alcohol and drugs in her house.
Since then, she was placed on remand for seven days in three phases over the drugs case.
On August 22, Pori Moni filed a bail petition with the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court challenging a lower court's order rejecting her bail plea. Judge KM Emrul Kayesh then set September 13 to hear the petition.
But the High Court on August 26 issued a rule asking the government to explain why the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court should not be directed to hear and dispose of Pori's bail application within two days.
Following the High Court order, the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court on Sunday brought forward to August 31 the date to hear the plea seeking bail for the film actress in the case.
