Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the government has a plan to roll out Covid-19 vaccines to all the citizens of the country aged above 18. For this, arrangements have been made to collect 24,65,13,660 doses of vaccines so far and applying more than one crore vaccines every month.

The Premier was responding to a query from Jatiya Party MP Rustam Ali Farazi during a scheduled question-answer session in the 14th session of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on Wednesday.

Earlier, the question-answer session was raised on the table in the sitting of the JS chaired by the Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

The Prime Minister said as per the schedule given by Sinopharm, a total of 6 crore vaccines - 2 crore vaccines per month - will be available from October to December. “Due to various steps taken by the government, so far (till September 12, 2021) 24,65,13,660 doses of vaccines have been collected, of these, a total of 4,44,31,880 doses of vaccine have been received as a bilateral purchase agreement and gift till September 12, 2021,” she said.

In order to bring the ongoing vaccination campaign to the doorsteps of the people, 673 vaccination centers, located at all the divisional Sadar and district Sadar, already rolled out the vaccines to the people, the Premier said.

The Prime Minister said around 96,54,119 doses of vaccine have been stored till September 12, 2021. So far, 2,09,22,175 people were given the first dose and 1,38,55,046 people were given the second dose, i.e., a total of 3,47,77,761 doses have been rolled out.

The Prime Minister reiterated the call for strict adherence to hygiene as well as vaccination and hoped to deal with this pandemic with the cooperation of all.

“When a certain proportion of vaccines are given to a particular population, the community is no longer infected,” the Prime Minister said.

The Premier added that it could not be determined how many people out of every 100 need to be vaccinated to develop “herd immunity” - it is different for different diseases and how much it will be in the case of Covid-19. “It is still under study,” she informed.

For this, the government has a plan to roll out the Covid-19 vaccine to all Bangladeshi citizens above the age of 18, as a result, efforts to collect vaccines from different countries and organizations around the world are continuing, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
