Dr Edric Baker, a physician known as the ‘Doctor Vai’ who dedicated his life for the treatment of poor people of the Kaliakair village in Tangail’s Modhupur Upazila, died on September 1, 2015, at the age of 74.

When he was suffering from an incurable disease,  many wanted to treat him in Dhaka. He did not want to go to Dhaka as his last desire to leave his last breath in the hospital that he built. And finally, his wish fulfilled as he breathed his last in 2015.

Dr. Jasine and Dr Merindy, another doctor couple, came from the United States to take charge of Baker’s hospital after his death.

Jasine once visited the hospital while Baker was alive. But after hearing the death of Baker, he was upset but could not come due to busyness. Finally, he left his country America and moved to Bangladesh in 2018.

It’s not just that they came. They brought their children along. He admitted them to the village school. The couple has four daughters.

After Dr Baker’s demise, Dr Jasine is now the new ‘Doctor Vai’ where Dr Merindy in known as ‘Doctor Didi’. They are both serving regularly.
