Over the past few days, the people of Kamalganj in Moulvibazar were rushing to withdraw money from the branches of commercial banks. Money withdrawing from banks have been increased recently due to the shutdown of huts and bazaars to prevent coronavirus outbreak.

Every day, the customers are withdrawing money 2/3 times more than the usual time instead of depositing money. All banks except the Sonali Bank branch of the Kamlaganj Upazila Sadar were closed in the first few days, according to bank officials.

On March 31, branches of Sonali Bank, Rupali Bank, Agrani Bank, Janata Bank, Sonali Bank at Shamshernagar, and Pubali Bank were opened. After that, the customers withdrew money by maintaining social distance.

Some customers, reluctant to disclose the name, said the government holiday could be extended. There is no certainty when the situation of the country will return to normal. In this, dangers may increase in the future. “When that time comes and if we cannot withdraw money, then we have to live a miserable life. For this, we are withdrawing money as an advance precaution,” they added.

“Customers withdrew around Tk 5 core money in the last six days,” said Nupur Baidya, branch manager of Pubali Bank. “In contrast, the money deposit is very small.”

The problem has created due to shut down of public transport and coronavirus panic all over the country, according to Kamalganj branch sources of Sonali Bank, Krishi Bank, Rupali Bank, Janata Bank, and Agrani Bank. However, bank officials are hopeful that the problem will be resolved soon.
