The oldest natural pearl has been discovered in the Marwah Valley of Abu Dhabi. Archaeologists believe the pearl is at least 8,000 years old, news The National.

The precious gem was recovered from the Marwah Valley, near the coast of Mirfah, 160 km west of the city of Abu Dhabi. Archaeologists at the city's Culture and Tourism department found that using the carbon dating system, pearls originated from 5800 to 5600 BC.

Archaeologists say that this new discovery means that people started using pearls in Abu Dhabi about 8,000 years ago. At the same time, it is the oldest of the natural pearls ever found on the earth.

Witnessing thousands of years of history, the gem will be put on display for October 30 at the Zaid National Museum in Abu Dhabi. The last phase of construction of the museum is underway in the Sadiat Valley in the city.
