In Patuakhali, DC has undertaken a gigantic tree plantation program. Under this program, 10 lakh different varieties tree saplings have been distributed and planted across the district. The program has been taken to protect life and green nature from environmental catastrophe.

Tree planting and distribution programs have been observed in the Payra Port and Payra Thermal Power Station.

Shipping Secretary Abdus Samad inaugurated the program on Saturday afternoon as the chief guest while Motiul Alam presided over the program. Payra Port officials, including Commodore M Jahangir Alam, director of the port were also present the meeting.

Various species of trees including guava, mango, jam, lemon, Jackfruit, litchi, Neem, Mahogany, Reentry, Chambool etc. have been planted.

Earlier, on the occasion of the 44th Martyrdom Anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, DC distributed the saplings among the students of School College in Patuakhali district. DC Motiul Islam Chowdhury said “Two saplings have been distributed to each of the four and a quarter lakh students of the district.”

These tree will also play an important role in counteracting the adverse effects of climate on coastal areas, he added. Besides, DC urged all to take care of the distributed tree saplings.
