Jubo Mohila League's suspended leader Shamima Nur Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon have been sent to jail after remand in a case filed over recovering counterfeit money.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Masdur Rahman ordered them to be sent to jail on Friday. On the same day, after a five-day remand in the case of recovering counterfeit money from the Airport Police Station, RAB produced them before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.

The investigating officer of the case requested to keep them in jail till the end of the investigation. Following the appeal, the judge ordered them to send to jail.

Earlier, in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury, after the remand of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, they were remanded in the case of recovering counterfeit money from Airport Police Station.

On March 11, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court granted them on a five-day remand each in these two cases. However, they were not remanded due to coronavirus.

On February 22, RAB arrested four people, including Papia, while they were leaving the country from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The other arrested are Papia's husband Mofizur Rahman alias Sumon Chowdhury alias Moti Sumon (38), Sabbir Khandaker (29) and Sheikh Tayyiba (22). At that time, seven passports, counterfeit notes, foreign currencies and two debit cards were seized from their possession.

Rab later raided Papia's flats in Farmgate and recovered a foreign-made pistol, two magazines, 20 bullets, five bottles of foreign-made liquor, Tk 58,41,000 cash, and credit and debit cards of different banks.

Later three cases were filed -- two with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station under arms and special powers acts, and one with Biman Bandar Police Station under special powers act.

On February 24, Papia and her husband were placed on 15-day remand each in three cases after they were produced before two separate Dhaka courts.
