If the weather is favorable, the 40th span of Padma Bridge will be installed today on pillars no. 11 and 12 of the bridge. With this, the 6.15 kilometers of the bridge will be visible.
Confirming the matter, Padma Bridge engineer Humayun Kabir said the span was taken to the pillar on Thursday, a day earlier, in order to get some technical work done. An army patrol boat ensured the safety of the span-carrying crane in the middle of the river until it is installed on the pillar on Friday.
Most of the spans was installed on Padma Bridge in October and November. The last span was installed on 27 November.
Construction of the Padma Bridge began in December 2014. The main bridge is being built by China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor, and Sino Hydro Corporation is working on river management. Abdul Momen Limited of Bangladesh has constructed two connecting roads and infrastructure. The 6.15 km long two-storey bridge is being constructed with concrete and steel.
