Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday urged all to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr staying home and enjoy time with their family members. Sheikh Hasina also urged the affluent section of society not to forget the poor neighbours, villagers or the people of the respective areas at this bad time.
The Prime Minister said this while addressing the nation on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday evening.
To prevent the coronavirus this year, Hasina said, the government has imposed a ban on all types of mass gatherings and it will not be possible to observe holy Eid-ul-Fitr as happened in normal time. "Steps have been taken to hold Eid jamaat in mosques instead of Eidgah keeping social distancing and maintaining health rules," she said.
She said, "This year, we have imposed restrictions on all types of public gatherings to prevent coronavirus." Therefore, it will not be possible to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr this time as usual. Instead of Eidgah Maidan, arrangements have been made to perform Eid prayers in the mosque by maintaining social distance in the mosque and following the hygiene rules.
Wishing the people of the country a happy Eid, the Prime Minister said that after a long month of fasting, the Almighty has fixed the day of Eid-ul-Fitr for the joyous festival. Forgetting the hardships and fatigue of a month, this is the day to rejoice and be happy.
Terming the Eid day as a day of joy and happiness, she said this year all will communicate with their nearest and dearest ones and relatives through telephone and virtual means and share their joy and happiness with them.
'A large number of law enforcement personnel, doctors and health workers, a significant number of administration officials, bank workers and journalists have been infected with the coronavirus while working to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the country. In addition, several doctors and health workers, members of the police and Ansar forces, administration officials and bankers and journalists have already died. I pray for the forgiveness of their souls and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. '
She urged everyone to realize that the context is different due to the outbreak of the disease, even though Eid is a happy day.
Sheikh Hasina said a deadly virus called Corona has spread like an epidemic all over the world. Several districts in the south-west of the country have been affected by the cyclone Amphan.
She expressed gratitude to the doctors, nurses, police, law enforcing agencies and cleaners who have been working from the frontlines to tackle coronavirus pandemic in the country.
The Prime Minister concluded her speech with the recitation of 'Eid Song' by National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and 'El Khushir Eid' at the end of that Ramadan fast.
