Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has officially inaugurated Army Headquarters Selection Board-2021.
The Premier formally announced the inauguration of the board by appearing as the chief guest through video teleconference (VTC) at a function held at the Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday.
The Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) said in a press release.
The press release said the activities of the council, which was organized for 6 days (15 July 2021 to 20 July 2021) for the promotion of army officers, started from today. This board will decide on the promotion from Colonel to Brigadier General and from Lieutenant Colonel to Colonel. Through these boards, formed with the highest policy-making officers of the Army, qualified and efficient officers for future senior leadership of the Army will be promoted subject to the approval of the Government.
At the beginning of the program organized at the Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment, the Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, OSP, NDU, PSC thanked the Prime Minister.
In her inaugural address, the Prime Minister said the Army Headquarters Selection Board-2021, held in this glorious year of celebrating the Golden Jubilee of the Independence and the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, carries a special significance.
She said the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a ‘Sonar Bangla’ free from hunger and poverty is no longer a dream but a reality. The country today has risen to a respectable position in all indicators of development. In keeping with the overall development of the country and the armed forces of the neighboring countries, the present government has taken various groundbreaking steps to build the armed forces as a modern, up-to-date and professional force by prioritizing the independence and sovereignty of the country.
Highlighting the various steps taken by the present government to modernize the army and empower women in the armed forces, the Prime Minister said following in the footsteps of the progress made by the Bangladesh Army through the dedicated efforts of the Father of the Nation, this force has become well-established as a highly professional and efficient force in the country and in the international arena with the intensive care of the present government.
“The Bangladesh Army is playing an admirable role in any catastrophic situation in the country. At the same time, the Bangladesh Army is playing a special role in the various developmental activities undertaken by the government for the overall progress of the country.”
The Premier advised the Bangladesh Army to select competent and acceptable leadership so that it can maintain its image in the country and in the international arena while maintaining efficiency, modernity and professionalism in their field of work.
The Prime Minister emphasized the professionalism, honesty, dedication, loyalty, discipline and leadership qualities of the officers and above all the employability of the officers. She hoped under competent leadership, the Bangladesh Army would always stand by the people in any need of the country.
The Prime Minister appreciated the role played by the Bangladesh Army as a frontline fighter in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and hoped that this sincere effort would continue.
Senior officials associated with the Army Promotion Boards received the Prime Minister’s instructions at the inaugural ceremony via video teleconference (VTC).
Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister. Ahmed Kaikaus, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Dr. Md. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, NDC, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Lieutenant General Waqar-uz-Zaman, SGP, PSC and Military Secretary to the Prime Minister Major General Naqib Ahmad Chowdhury, BSP (Bar), NDC, PSC were present.
At the end of the ceremony, the Prime Minister exchanged views separately with the senior officers of the Army and asked for greetings.
