Turkey has vaccinated more than 6 million people against the COVID-19 developed by China’s Sinovac Biotech, reports Xinhua citing the country’s health ministry on Thursday.
So far, over 5.2 million people have received their first doses of the vaccine, and 900,000 others have taken their second shots, according to the data released on the ministry’s website.
In Istanbul, the country’s largest city with a population of over 16 million, nearly one million citizens have been vaccinated so far, the data showed.
Turkey launched its nationwide rollout on January 14, with priority for healthcare workers and the elderly.
On Wednesday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey will gradually lift restrictions against COVID-19 on the provincial levels starting from March.
