At least 30 Taliban insurgent fighters were killed in multiple Afghan air force strikes on Saturday, officials said.
The strikes happened following the long-awaited peace talks between the Islamist militant group and the Afghan government, led by President Ashraf Ghani.
The Taliban claimed the strike had killed nearly two dozen civilians including women and children.
“This morning, Taliban fighters attacked ANDSF positions in Nikapaye Sayed Ramazan area of Khan Abad district in Kunduz province. ANDSF intercepted the attack in accordance with active defense procedures,” the Defence Ministry said in a statement on Twitter.
However, the Taliban denied in a statement that its fighters were hit and said 23 civilians had been killed.
