Over 3 lakh new infected, 6209 more die in a day globally

In the last 24 hours, 315,710 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus around the world while 6,209 died from the pandemic. India has seen the highest number of infections and deaths during the period.
As of Thursday afternoon, a total of 34,170,356 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 1,018,899 while 25,437,901 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
In India, the death toll from the pandemic has risen to 98,708 after 1,179 people succumbed to the disease over the past 24 hours. Besides, 86,748 new cases have been registered during the period, that pushed the country's COVID-19 tally to over 6.3 million. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 6,310,267. India has the second-highest number of active cases and ranks third in the COVID-19 death toll.
The United States, the worst-hit country in the world, has seen the second-highest death toll of 955 in the last 24 hours. The country is still at the top in coronavirus deaths and infections. A total of 211,740 people died in the country due to the pandemic and 7,447,282 have been infected so far.
The Latin American country of Brazil has seen the third-highest death toll of 952 in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 143,962. The total number of cases has exceeded 4.81 million with more than 33,269 new infections.
Mexico has registered the fourth-highest death toll of 560 during the time. With this, the tally of fatalities from the pandemic has risen to 77,163 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 738,163 as 4,446 new cases were confirmed during the period.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
