Over 1 million people infected with coronavirus

More than a million people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus worldwide, as the death toll surpassed 53,000 while more than 210,000 patients recovered. 

According to WorloMeter Data, 1,016,330 cases of coronavirus have been registered globally as of Friday noon. Besides, a total of 53,238 people have died and more than 213,132 have recovered from the deadly virus. 

Nearly a quarter of cases have been registered in the United States, while Europe accounts for around half.

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 204 countries and territories around the world and 2 international conveyances. More than a third of the world's population is now under lockdown as an increasing number of countries implement sweeping measures to fight the coronavirus pandemic. 

The coronavirus pandemic death toll in Spain, the second-worst hit nation in terms of deaths, passed 10,000 on Thursday, as the country reported its highest single-day number of deaths since the outbreak began, with the total rising by more than 1,000 to 10,096 among 110,238 infections. 

The United States - the world's hardest-hit country - recorded more than 6,000 coronavirus deaths, according to data. It has confirmed more than 245,000 cases of the disease.

Meanwhile, 1,355 more people have died from coronavirus in France on Thursday, raising the total number of deaths in the country to 5,387. The deadly virus has so far infected 59,105 people in the European country. Of them, 41,290 are currently being treated with 6,399 being in serious or critical condition. Besides, 12,428 people have recovered so far.
