Over 1 crore people to get Covid-19 shots together: Maleque

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque said more than one crore people would be vaccinated simultaneously against coronavirus.
He came up with the development while speaking as a chief guest at an unveiling ceremony of a special publication on the occasion of Mujib Year and the inauguration of the digital M&E system organized by the National Nutrition Council at Hotel Radisson in the capital on Thursday afternoon.
"We have already vaccinated about 2.5 crore people in the country," he said. Of them, more than 1.5 crore people had already received both doses. We have adequate vaccine stocks. Another 50 lakh vaccine shots arrived in the country from China on Wednesday. Two days ago, we received a promise from the World Health Organization to receive another 71 lakh vaccines from Pfizer. We have received 10 lakh doses out of the earlier promised Tk 60 lakh doses. Another 71 lakh new vaccines will come to Bangladesh.
Zahid Maleque said, "We are set to large-scale vaccination activities in five to six days. We are planning to vaccinate more than one crore people simultaneously in a few days. And regular vaccination activities are going on."
"We are getting vaccines from Covax and other sources," the minister said.
Health Minister said, "We have brought expatriates worker under vaccination under special arrangements". Vaccine Corner has been set up for expatriates. They have been vaccinated with Pfizer as needed. Corona test lab will also be set up at the airport from this evening, he added.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Lokman Hossain Mia presided over the ceremony. Director General of the National Nutrition Council Khalilur Rahman gave the welcoming speech. Director-General of the Department of Health, Prof. Dr. was present as a special guest. ABM Khurshid Alam, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Mujibul Haque, President of the Independence Medical Council, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Arslan, and Secretary-General Prof. Mohammad Abdul Aziz were present.
