Outsider banned in colleges, police patrolling

The government has ordered to close dormitories and increased police patrols on campus, including an entry ban on outsiders to public and private colleges across the country.

The Directorate Of Secondary & Higher Education (DSHE) has issued such instructions three days after gang rape incident at MC College campus in Sylhet.

On Tuesday, a letter was sent to the principals of all public and private colleges across the country regarding the implementation of government directives to ensure the safety of public and private colleges closed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

According to the letter, due to the global outbreak of coronavirus, all educational institutions in the country have been closed since March 16 as per the decision of the Ministry of Education. Due to the long closure of the institution, the head of the institution should make efforts to ensure the security of all government resources and equipment of the college including maintaining security on the college campuses.

The head of the institution has been specially requested to take 9 urgent steps to implement the government directives including security and protection of assets in the college campus. 

The steps are-

1. Online class activities should be continued and the regional director should be informed about the class.
2. The organization should form a vigilance team and submit regular inspection reports to the head of the organization.
3. Students need to monitor online class participation and connect with parents.
4. Students should be instructed to follow the health guidelines. 
5. Unnecessary public access to the college campus should be banned. 
6. Necessary steps have to be taken to protect all government property and documents including science lab, ICT lab, library of the college.
7. The dormitories must be closed and the security of the dormitory must be ensured.
8. All the entrances including the main gate of educational institutions should be guarded round the clock. 
9. Police patrols on campus should be intensified in collaboration with the local administration.
